Choir
MISSION: The
Adult Choir should endeavor to glorify God, refresh our spirits, and
inspire our community to greater holiness in prayer and action with our
treasured compositions of the past and modern devotional works. The Adult
Choir is a group of singers who lead the assembly in sung prayer and
minister to them through inspired anthems.
AGE PARTICIPATION: Those from post high-school age through adult are welcome to this group. REHEARSALS: The Adult Choir rehearses on Thursdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Music Room. LITURGIES REQUIRED: The choir sings three times each month at the 10:00 a.m. Liturgy, and special events throughout the year -- Confirmation, concerts, etc. From mid-September through Pentecost. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: This group sings more challenging music and anthems from the rich choral tradition through current avant garde. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Sense of pitch and love of singing are essential; note reading and music background are helpful but not necessary. Schola Cantorum MISSION: The Schola Cantorum (name meaning "small group of singers") is a semi-professional, auditioned group of singers who minister to the assembly in special more difficult anthems from many different sources.AGE PARTICIPATION: Those from post-high school through adult. REHEARSALS: The Schola normally rehearses from 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Music Room, as required. LITURGIES REQUIRED: The Schola sings once a month at the 10:00 a.m. Liturgy, from September through Corpus Christi. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Schola Cantorum is for those who really love the choral music idiom. It requires attendance at all rehearsals, reading of music, sense of pitch and excellent ear for blend. Openings are held as needed. Contemporary ChoirDirector: Cindy Ritter MISSION: The Contemporary Choir is a lighter, more upbeat group of singers and musicians who lead the assembly in sung prayer using contemporary music with piano, guitar, percussion, and other instruments. AGE PARTICIPATION: Those from high-school age through adult are welcome to this group. REHEARSALS: The choir rehearses on Sunday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Church and from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the gym.. LITURGIES REQUIRED: The Contemporary Choir normally sings each week at the 11:30 a.m. Liturgy throughout the year. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The choir sings music in parts with all types of instruments, from guitar and piano to flute and drums. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A sense of pitch and love of singing to the Lord are necessary. Note reading for the instruments is also necessary. Cantors MISSION: Cantors are those who proclaim the Word of God in the Psalms, and animate the assembly into sung prayer. AGE PARTICIPATION: Those from high school age through adult. REHEARSALS: The music is sent out in advance and the cantors learn the music at home on their own, and rehearse with the Music Director only before each given liturgy. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The ministry of Cantor is an ancient one, going back to the Jewish times before Christ. The ministry was resurrected in the Roman Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Those wishing to sing as Cantors are required to have a pleasant voice, and excellent sense of pitch and rhythm and a joyful spirit to animate the assembly. TIME REQUIREMENTS: The Cantors sing year round. Individual availability sheets are mailed out in advance, and then scheduling follows according to availability. Men's Ministry Choir MISSION: The Men's Ministry Choir is a group of men in the parish who enjoy giving praise to the Lord in Song. AGE REQUIREMENTS: Those from post-high school age through adult. REHEARSALS & LITURGIES: This group meets only five - six times a year, and rehearsals are set during the week before the choir sings. Each time the group sings, one rehearsal is called before the event; thus only five - six rehearsals a year. A schedule is handed out at the beginning of the year listing rehearsals and scheduled liturgies. Children's Choirs MISSION: The Youth and Cherub Choirs are groups of young singers who give praise to the Lord and lead the assembly in sung prayer as well as pass on the faith of the Church through music. The name "Cherub" means "little angel." Cherub Choir AGE PARTICIPATION: Kindergarten through third grade. REHEARSALS: The Cherub Choir rehearses on Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:15 in the Church. LITURGIES REQUIRED: The Cherub Choir sings the first Sunday of the month at the 8:30 a.m. Liturgy from October to Easter. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: A schedule of liturgies and rehearsals is handed out in September for the fall/winter season and in January for the winter/spring season. New members are invited to join in September. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The love of singing is required. White shirts and dark (preferably black) pants or skirts and dark dress shoes are required for singing at liturgies. Youth Choir REHEARSALS: The Youth Choir rehearses on Mondays from 3:30 - 4:15 in the Church. LITURGIES REQUIRED: The Youth Choir sings at the 8:30 a.m. Liturgy on the third Sunday of the month. SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Youth choir is open to both public and Catholic school children. A schedule of liturgies and rehearsals is handed out in September for the fall/winter season and in January for the winter/spring season. New members are invited to join in September. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: White shirts and dark (preferably black) pants or skirts and dark dress shoes are worn at all liturgical functions and concerts. The choir is limited to 40 individuals because of space limitations in the choir loft. All members after signing up attend an interview with the Music Director to see the progress made from year to year, and to determine voice part. Choir Parents Guild MISSION: To assist the Music Director with the non-musical tasks that help the children's choirs run more smoothly. SPECIAL INFORMATION: The Choir Parents Guild assists with car-pooling for rehearsals and special events, assist at choir parties, act as choir camp chaperons, assist with set-up and take-down of risers (Cherub Choir) on Sundays, assist the Music Director at rehearsals, and assist with minor clerical work (letters and mailings to Children's Choirs). Resurrection Choir The Resurrection Choir is a special group of adult and senoir singers who minister to those loved ones have passed on to everlasting life. A love of music and a joy in ministering to those in need of comfort are necessary to be a part of this ministry. Teen Choir The Teen choir is a group of high-school students who minister to their peers at special Teen Liturgies--usually the first Sunday of the month at 6:00 PM. All teens, both singers and instrumentalists are invited to participate. Music Librarians With eight musical groups, instrumentalists and cantors, a great deal of sheet music changes hands each week. The parish maintains a Choral Library in which all the choir music and instrumental music is filed and stored. The music librarians file, keep order, and prepare the music that the choirs use each week. |
