Deacon John Spiezio, Liturgy Coordinator
Grace Adduci, Assistant Director of Sacred Music

I love to hear a choir. I love the humanity... to see the faces of real people devoting themselves to a piece of music. I like the teamwork. It makes me feel optimistic about the human race when I see them cooperating like that.  ~ PAUL MCCARTNEY

This is one of my favorite quotes about choirs.  In my many years of music ministry, I have experienced the joys of teamwork and community with all the choirs I have had the privilege of directing.  Besides the joy of the music itself, the most important aspect of music ministry in a parish is to engage in the prayer of the liturgy.  People choose to participate in choirs for various reasons: for many, it is a spiritual experience and a gift of their time and talent to the parish; for others, it is a social time and the sense of belonging to a small community; many participate for the love of the music, for singing and playing their instrument, or to improve their skills; and some continue because they have always done so and can’t imagine their week without rehearsal and singing for Sunday Mass!

Regardless of your own reasons, I invite you to consider involvement in the music ministry of our parish.  For all music groups, I strive to create an environment that is welcoming, prayerful, and a place where individuals with various levels of skill and ability and grow, learn, and improve.  Please consider one of the following opportunities, and feel free to reach out to me if you sing or play an instrument.  I will be very happy to speak with you and discuss any questions you might have.

St. Petronille Choirs:

  • … Traditional Choir:  The Traditional Choir leads the assembly with a variety of musical styles each weekend at the 9:30AM Sunday morning Mass.  Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at 7:30PM in the music room and are already underway!  All singers from high school age through adulthood are welcome to join us!
  • … Contemporary Choir:  The Contemporary Choir leads the assembly in contemporary music weekly at the 11:30AM Sunday morning Mass.  The Contemporary Choir leads recently composed music as well as favorites from composers such as David Hass and Marty Haugen.  Rehearsals resume September 10, and take place on Tuesday evenings at 7:30PM in the music room.  All singers and instrumentalists from high school age through adulthood are welcome!
  • … Joyful Praise Children’s Choir:  The Joyful Praise Children’s Choir is open to students in 3rd grade through 8th grades.  Rehearsals take place Thursdays after school.  Public school, home school, and St. Petronille School students are welcome to join us as we sing together and prepare music for the Mass.  Further information will be available shortly.
  • … Teen Choir:  The Teen Choir provides music for the monthly Teen Mass (2nd Sunday of each month, 5PM).  The Teen Choir leads the assembly in contemporary music, and would love to have high school aged musicians join us!  Please contact Annemarie Coman, Director of Youth Ministry, for more information.
  • … Cantor Ministry:  Cantors proclaim the Psalm at Mass and lead congregational singing.  Strong vocal skills are necessary.  We are in need of a few additional cantors and vocalists of all ages are encouraged to answer the call to this important ministry!

The Worship Commission represents the various liturgical ministries and all facets of the spiritual life of the parish expressed in worship. The Liturgy Ministry provides for the formation and training of all those who participate in Liturgical Ministries: Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Communion to Shut-ins, Sacristans, Altar Servers, Greeters, Ushers, Funeral and Wedding Coordinators, Lenten Missions and all Worship Services. The Music Ministry prepares the musical accompaniment at most Liturgical Services. This ministry ensures that all instrumentalists and choir members receive appropriate training and rehearsals.

Unless otherwise indicated, ministries are open to all ages beginning with those in High School.
