Religious Education Opportunities

St. Petronille Religious Education provides evangelization and catechetical instruction for children in Grades 1 through 8. A strong Catholic identity is emphasized as we learn about Jesus Christ and His holy Catholic Church while using the Faith and Life series from Ignatius Press. Families, as the primary educators of their children’s faith, are supported with resources and encouragement for living a prayerful and sacramental life.

The journey to participating

Sacrament Preparation

Preparation for the sacraments is a process which requires two years of Religious Education, per the Diocese of Joliet.

First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion:

Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion generally begins in Grade 1, with reception of the Sacraments occurring in Grade 2.

Confirmation:

Preparation for Confirmation generally begins in Grade 7, with the reception of Confirmation occurring in Grade 8. Our parish prepares St. Petronille School and Religious Educations students together, with the assistance of Confirmation Mentors, staff, and clergy. A separate registration is required.

Special Sacrament Preparation:

Because sacramental preparation is a process, and not a time-sensitive event, Individual Sacrament Plans may be created for children as needed. These plans will address the sacramental preparation needs of the child and the parents. This additional instruction occurs outside of regular weekly grade level Religious Education classes. For unbaptized children, RCIA adapted for children is provided as needed.
